A Suitcase Of Finds

A good friend of mine is studying fashion communication at JMU Liverpool and as part of her course, her and her friend came together to host a vintage fair at well known bar, Heebie Jeebies.
The top floor was filled with vintage delights from hand picked 1950's jewellery to battered biker boots and sent locals rummaging through tables for a piece of vintage treasure.
I bought a few bits that I will post on here soon, but for now heres some photos of the event.

A Stylish Gathering

I mentioned that I attended the "Bloggers masterclass" evening at Topshop a short while back and one of the things that I loved most about the event was the incredibly stylish audience that it attracted.
Known for fake tan and bad hair extensions, the night proved that Liverpool girls do have an individual and creative way of dressing (Suzie and Stevie didn't look too bad either).

Captured

Since last monday, my sketchbook is starting to take shape and much to my ( and my tutors) amazement i've finally got the knack for making samples.
I'm an absolute tool on a sewing machine usually and would rather draw a life size garment than make one from scratch.
Anyway, after gathering a juxtapose of materials and any crap that I could possible get my hands on ( negative film, news paper, acetate, fabric, cling film) I whipped out a collection of half decent samples.
Not one to ditch my fineliner, i also illustrated a few designer collections as part of my research and printed a few drawings and images onto acetate.
My next task is to create an installation mood board ,  i'm thinking an A3 size 3D camera.
Stay Tuned..

Hooker heels and Plastic Cups

Not one to stand in front of a tripod and pose in my latest look ( not a criticism ) I thought it would be a shame not to share what i've been wearing lately.
My whole outfit is from Topshop ( the joys of 25% staff discount) and the photo was taken at one of my best friends' birthday and upon leaving the house my mum told me not to mix sheer fabrics and huge heels- I didn't listen and the result is as below!
Speaking of Topshop, i attended Suzie Bubble and Stevie , of Discotheque confusions' blogging masterclass yesterday- it was refreshing to see two down to earth lovers of fashion and hear about their opinions on blogging in the industry.

Thats all for today, Im off to listen to Lupe Fiascos' new album, Lasers.

Film Is Not Dead

My posts have been far and few between lately, this has been due to university interviews, loads of college work and working part-time at Topshop.
It's all been worth it though, as I recieved a conditional offer for illustration at London College of Fashion, which I am very excited about.
I've also started my final brief in college and have chosen to study cameras and photography as my final major project piece, i'm really enjoying this brief as there's a lot to research and draw from.
As part of it , i recently visited Tate Liverpools' Nam June Paik exhibition which is amazing and i'd certainly recommend a visit.
The next eight weeks are going to be hell but hopefully worth it !
Below are a few new illustrations and sketches from my new brief- Enjoy.

One last thing, i recommend you follow my friend Natalies' music based blog, she knows a thing or two about music and has her own radio slot - http://imjustpostingmusic.blogspot.com/

Festival Envy

It's that time of year again where ticketmaster crashes, the line goes dead and no matter how fast you click - you HAVE to wait.
Its pre festival season- when everyone is fighting over tickets to some of the best events of July and August.
My favorite part of Summer has to be festival time, everything about it gets me excited and I have some amazing memories from the past two years running around in the mud and belching out some of my favourite songs.
Watching the Libertines play as the sun went down at leeds has to be one of my favourite recollections ,as is dancing to the stereophonics with my best friends at V festival.
This year ill be returning to leeds (its a tradition that i'm refusing to break) and ill be heading overseas to Benicassim in July to watch the Strokes and Arctic Monkeys play.
Below are some of my favorite photos taken by my friends over the past two years at festivals.

Can We Expect More Fom Dior?

It was a shock and a set back to the fashion world this week, when an online video of John Galliano was published onto the Sun website showing the creative director making anti-sematic remarks at restaraunt La Perle in Paris.
Although this has caused much disgust and confusion to his followers, it has also spurred the question- Who will be appointed as the new creative director at Dior?
Throughout the past 15 years at the label, we have seen Galliano go from strength to strength with his ever changing and head turning creations, meaning that the next successor has some pretty big shoes to fill.
Rumours have been circling the internet over who will take the designers' place but nothing has yet to be confirmed.
Favourites for the place are Alber Elbaz, who proved his fashion status this year with an outstanding collaboration collection for H+M , as well as YSL's Stefano Pilati ;who has proved that he is more than capable of such a prestigious place in the industry.

Neadless to say, this story will continue to flourish over the next few weeks and no doubt will cause LVMH to think long and hard over the future of Dior.
